Community Action Fellows

Ad for Community Action Fellow Position

Community Action Fellows are undergraduate or graduate student leaders committed to strengthening our community, developing leadership skills, and advancing equity.

Community Action Fellows have the opportunity to:

  • Design and implement original community change projects connected to Community Engaged Learning's Areas of Impact (Food Security, Education & Literacy, Voting & Political Engagement, and Environmental Sustainability)
  • Serve as a liaison to multiple local non-profit organizations and government agencies
  • Co-lead a council of on-campus and off-campus partners in your Area of Impact
  • Attend two meetings per month with other Fellows focusing on leadership development, community engagement, and professional networking throughout the year
  • Facilitate one "Service in a Flash" service project each semester that connects to your Area of Impact
  • Serve as an Alternative Spring Break trip leader (all expenses paid)
  • Help us spread the word about opportunities with Community Engaged Learning through tabling, info sessions, and presentations

This time commitment is an average of eight hours/week. Fellows receive a $375 stipend every quarter of the academic year (October, December, March, and May) with the completion of all responsibilities.

Critical Dates for Selected Community Action Fellows:

  • Thursday, August 15th and Friday, August 16th, 2024 (We will hold our Training & Orientation program, which is mandatory; Fellows will connect with each other, learn about CEL's Areas of Impact as well as community organizing techniques, and plan for the year)
  • Friday afternoons (from 1:00-2:30 p.m.) throughout the academic year (required meetings that will be up to 90 minutes in length)

Selection of Community Action Fellows:

  • There are eight Community Action Fellows selected -- two aligned with each Area of Impact.
  • Candidates complete an interview process with CEL staff in April; invitations to serve as 2024-2025 Fellows are distributed in April prior to the end of the academic year.
