Biography
I am a Ph.D. student who began studying US History at Beijing Normal University and specializes in American intellectual and cultural history, with emphasis on identity formation and negotiation. I examine how gender, race, sex, intersect with ethnicity formed the collective identity of the minority group to resist institutional injustice. My dissertation will analyze transformations in ideas of manly identity among Chinese Americans who lived in San Francisco's Chinatown from the late nineteenth century to the end of World War II.
